Stony Creek Brewery

Location:

Located in Branford, CT right on the Branford River.  Stony Creek is one of the larger breweries to visit in CT.  They are located in a giant barn/warehouse (architectural naming is not my forte) with a waterfront patio.  This place is an awesome location, and a great place to hang out.  The bar is large, and there are tons of TVs and places to sit and watch games on Saturday's and Sunday's.  There is a small merchandise store, and they do offer tours. Tours are at designated times on weekends only and cost $5, but do include a sampling.  We went on a Saturday on our way to the Guilford County Fair, and they had a couple food trucks available out front.  You are also welcome to bring food with you.  Unlike a lot of breweries, pets are not welcome here unless they are service animals.  

Beer:

I've had several of the main stream beer Stony Creek cans before, so we decided to purchase a couple flights to sample a few new beers. The most notable from our sampling were Stony Joe, Crankenstein, and Crum.  Stony Joe, a golden mocha stout, has a great mocha coffee flavor profile in a wait for it...golden ale color.  Honestly once you get past the fact that is isn't dark and therefore shouldn't have a coffee flavor it's actually pretty darn good.  Plus they source their coffee from Redding Roasters Coffee in Bethel, which if you want to buy some real high quality whole bean coffee, I'd definitely recommend.  Crankenstein is a split style IPA, part west coast, part NEIPA, and was super easy drinking.  Since it was Fall, we felt obligated to try Crum (an apple cinnamon oatmeal amber ale).  It was definitely a unique flavor profile, but definitely not for everybody.

This place is definitely in a prime location, and has a great atmosphere.  Hopefully over time Stony Creek will continue to produce some great beers, because the possibilities here are limitless.  I left with a tulip glass, simply because I'm a sucker for great logos.
